Brownfield Lady Cub Volleyball
The Lady Cubs started off strong last Tuesday on senior night, hosting the Talkington Lady Warriors. They won the first set but ultimately lost the next three sets, bringing their season record to 4-14. Their next matchup is on Tuesday, September 23rd, when they will travel to face the #14 Denver City Fillies in the District 3-3A opener. The Fillies have an impressive record of 20-8 for the season, having lost to three top-25 4A teams: #8 Andrews (twice), #12 Seminole, and #13 Graham. They have also lost to 3A #21 Shallowater, 4A Hereford in a five-set match, and two 6A teams, Permian and Midland Lee.
The Lady Cubs will need to start strong against Denver City. The Fillies have allowed their opponents to win at least one set in 11 of the 20 games they’ve played. If Brownfield can win the first set or even the second set, it could boost their confidence and put them in a position to win the match.
On Saturday, the Lady Cubs will travel a bit further south to face the Crane Lady Cranes. Crane has a record of 10-11 this season, but eight of their ten wins have come against 1A teams. Their other two victories were against Pecos and Kermit. They have suffered losses against eight 2A teams, as well as one 4A team, one 3A team, and one 1A team. The Lady Cubs have a good chance to finish the week with a 2-0 record.

Wellman-Union Lady Cat Volleyball
The Lady Cats faced a tough loss last Tuesday night when they traveled to Plains to compete against the Cowgirls, losing 3-0. This defeat brought their season record to 10-12. Like their neighbors to the north, the Lady Cats will also begin district action as they host the Loop Lady Longhorns tomorrow night, Tuesday, September 23rd (6:00 pm first serve).
The Lady Longhorns are currently struggling with a record of 0-9 this season and have played fewer than half the games the Lady Cats have played. As a result, the Lady Cats should enter the game as the stronger and more accomplished team compared to Loop.
Looking ahead, the Lady Cats will travel to Klondike to take on the #14 Lady Cougars on Saturday, September 27th (12:00 pm first serve). Klondike is considered a regional powerhouse in volleyball, boasting a record of 17-11. However, don’t be misled by their eleven losses; those came against four top-25 teams: #8 Andrews (4A), #12 Seminole (4A), #25 Compass (3A), and #6 Forsan (2A). Three of these losses occurred during the Kaylee Scholarship Association (KSA) volleyball tournament held in Orlando, Florida, while the other four losses were against three 2A teams and one 4A squad. The Lady Cats will need to maintain precision and focus to succeed in this match.
