Nelle Madeline Shipp ObituaryGraveside services for Nelle Madeline Shipp, 98, of Brownfield, will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at Slater’s Chapel Cemetery in Nolan with Rev. Billy Oliver officiating under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home in Sweetwater.
Shipp died on Thursday, July 14, 2016 in Brownfield.
She was born on November 21, 1917 in Groesbeck, Texas. She married Albert Shipp on March 15, 1936 in Groesbeck.
She lived in Rising Star, Texas for a short period of time with the family and lived in Nolan County from 1950 until 1992 then moving to Rankin, Texas. Nelle lived in Brownfield for the past year. She fostered 73 children for Nolan County CPS over the time she lived in Nolan County and had worked in the SISD school cafeteria. She was a doll collector and, being a seamstress, made clothes for more than 100 dolls in her collection. Nelle was a blood donor and was very proud of the fact that she donated more than eight gallons in her lifetime. She was a lifelong member of Nolan Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Nan Owen and husband Doug of Rankin; sons, Mike Shipp and wife Kaye of Llano, and Jarrell Shipp and wife Julie of Abilene; ten grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John R. and Bertha (Shelton) Boykin; husband, Albert Shipp; daughters, Martha Gossett, Toga Brock, and David Shipp; son, Joel Shipp; and two sisters, Johnnie Boykin Daly and Pauline Boykin Rodgers.
