Meadow Musical is back!

by admin

After taking a year off due to COVID, the Meadow Musical is back and ready for music and fun. The Musical will have an evening of music on Saturday, October 9, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

The Meadow Musical actually began in 1971 on Mayor George Ashburn’s front porch. Ashburn and his family would perform for the neighbors from the front porch until the crowds grew so large that he knew he needed to make a change.

Ashburn bought an empty grocery store on Mitchell Street. The property next door was soon added. The venue grew, and now has a capacity of around 500.

George Ashburn was inducted into the West Texas Walk of Fame in 1997.

Ashburn’s daughter, Mary Beth has taken the show on as her project for the last several years.

“Music is something my family has always enjoyed, and the Meadow community, and the area have always embraced it. We are ready to get things going once again,” stated Mary Beth.

Country legend Barbara Mandrell guest starred at the Meadow Musical before becoming famous. Also, favorite son, Meadow native Sonny Curtis has taken part several times. Curtis is now a famous singer-songwriter.

Even though, on the calendar, this is the Musical’s 50th birthday, Mary Beth has decided to make next year the 50th birthday year, since a year was missed. And she is already planning a great 50th celebration.

But the show goes on this weekend! To this day, there has never been an admission charge. Donations are welcomed, of course.

Performers scheduled for Saturday, October 9 are:

Under the Double Eagle Band

Kallie Rodgers

Will Weathersby

Bobby Taff and Classic Country

And always a surprise guest or two!

There will be a concession stand and an awesome dance floor.

Get your boot scootin’ boots on and head to Meadow on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. for fun and entertainment

One of the area’s oldest, if not the oldest, musical venues is right here in Terry County! Let’s take advantage of that!
