Month-Long Awareness for May 2024: ALS Awareness Month
ALS Awareness Month is a campaign to spread awareness of and raise funds for research for a cure for ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease).
May 2, 2024: National Day of Prayer

Thursday is the National Day of Prayer all across the United States of America. Congress dedicated this day of observance, and people are asked to “turn to God in prayer and meditation.” The modern law was enacted in 1952 in reaction to perceived threats during the Korean War.

It is election day for the City of Brownfield Mayor, City Council, BRMC Board of Directors and BISD Board of Trustees.

It is a yearly celebration for Mexico to celebrate its independence from the second French Empire at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. In America, Hispanic Americans share the pride of their ancestors and celebrate accordingly!

Traditionally, Mother’s Day is always celebrated on the second Sunday of May every year in the United States! It is a holiday that honors mothers and is observed in different forms worldwide. In the U.S.. As we celebrate it, Mother’s Day was created by Anna Jarvis in 1908. It became an official U.S. Holiday in 1914. Mother’s Day is celebrated by presenting cards, flowers, or other sweet gifts!
May 27, 2024: Memorial Day
Observed on the last Monday of May, it is an important holiday to American Citizens, patriots, and most importantly, those who served and know the loss of a loved one in service to the United States. It is a day of observation and remembrance of men and women who gave their lives for their country. Originally known as Decoration Day, it originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971. Many Americans observe Memorial Day by visiting cemeteries or memorials, holding family gatherings and participating in parades. Unofficially, it marks the beginning of the summer season.
