Making a Difference

In 1 Kings 10, we read the story of the Queen of Sheba coming to see for herself the wealth and wisdom of King Solomon. If you recall, when Solomon became King, God told to him to ask whatever he wanted, and God would give him that. Solomon asked for wisdom. Since he did not ask for wealth or fame, God gifted him with all these, along with a wisdom “that no one before or since ever possessed.” Word of King Solomon and his amazing gifts reached the Queen of Sheba even though she lived about 1,500 miles away. She loaded her camels and donkeys with lots of gifts for King Solomon and made the trip to find out for herself if all the stories she had heard were true. The Bible says that when she saw all his wealth and all his influence, and heard all his wisdom, she was left breathless at what all God had given him. She gave all glory to the God of Solomon for all He had done for Solomon.

A bit of a story to get to where I want to take you. When was the last time the glory of God left you breathless? When was the last time that your sense of awe at the majesty of this One who created all of the earth and still felt like the world needed you, absolutely left you without words? I think we are so lacking in experiencing the wonder of this God we serve.

They say we only use a small portion of our brain power on a normal basis. The same is true with the power of God. We don’t see all that we should be able to see God doing because we are not wrapped up in Him. We go about our daily lives, just living and every now and then maybe thinking a prayer for one situation or another. We need to be so much more devoted to spending time with this One! We need to feel overwhelmed with the goodness of our God. We need to feel unworthy in His presence, yet grateful because He made a way for us to approach Him.

Take some time this week to find what leaves you breathless in the presence of God. His creations are so amazing and His blessings are so many. If we give Him any time at all, that breathless feeling should come upon us.

Oh what power is ours in the goodness of our God! Oh what peace is available to each of us from this One who knows the names of each of the multitude of stars in heaven, yet who also bends down to listen to one of His children cry. This One who keeps our tears in a bottle. This One who gave His only Son so I could cry out “Abba! Father!” And He would hear me. Are you breathless? Oh we should be breathless with every thought of our Savior. Spend time in His majesty! It will make a difference!
