School has started with vigor!! All the activities are ramping up. Volleyball is underway. Football will start this week. Band has been getting it going and are ready to march on Friday nights. As you get older, the years seem to just fly by. I mean, in four months it will be Christmas! Ha!
As we get so busy in our lives, it is easy to lose time in your day for God. Now, don’t get me wrong. Busy is good in most cases. We love to see our kids involved in activities and we need to be there supporting them. What I am saying is don’t lose sight of God in all this.
In order to not lose sight of God in your daily life, I believe you have to be intentional about it. Schedule time for God like you would schedule anything else. Mark off a block of time that will be His. And then do it! Spend time with Him. If God is truly the most important part of our lives, shouldn’t He have a place on our calendar? If you wait until you have time for God, it won’t happen. Scheduling time for God is not about making our faith seem like just one more task in our day. It is more about protecting what matters most.
You know, the truth is that even Jesus drew away from the disciples and others to have time with His Father. Aren’t we to imitate Jesus in our lives? If Jesus knew the value of spending time with His Father, shouldn’t we also? If you schedule it in, it has the potential to become that treasured part of your day where you get to pull aside from all that is calling your name and listen for the One you truly want to call your name.
This is not about checking a box. It is about filling a box! It is about filling that box in your heart and mind with the Words of the Father. It is about feeling His arms wrapped around you in those moments when the world is tugging at you. It is about a peace that you will not find in anything else on earth.
I have an alarm on my phone that goes off at 10:02 am and one that goes off at 9:37 pm. Why? Luke 10:2 is Jesus reminding us that the harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. It reminds me to pray for us that we would reach the lost in our world. Matthew 9:37 does the same thing. It reminds me to pray for our world. We are surrounded by so many that need to know Jesus. These two alarms remind me to pray for them.
Find you a verse about prayer that you like. If it works, set it as your time for an alarm on you phone so you will remember to pray. The question is not whether you have time for God or not. The question is have you made time for Him. It will make a difference!
