What is God’s call on your life? Do you even know what this means?? In Jeremiah’s first chapter, God says to Jeremiah (and to us), “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” What I believe He is telling us is that God has a plan for our lives before we are even born. I believe He has our lives mapped out, knowing even the poor choices we will make along the way. I believe we are each set apart for a purpose to be used by Him in this world. Often our calling is a day to day thing, I think.
We are placed in this world for some reason. People are placed around us for some reason. Are you letting opportunities to be used by God pass by day after day? Our world hurts so much. We have kiddos who are, as the Bible would say, “pressed on every side.” What that means is that the pressures on our kiddos today are harder than they have ever been. There is a world out there that wants to claim your child for its own. And by world, I mean Satan. He is roaming around like a raging lion looking for who he might devour. Those are God’s words, not mine. So, with that in mind, we need to be about being open and aware of God’s calling on our lives.
It is just not that hard. I have been reading a devotional on God’s calling and the writer stated, “If you can look one person in the eye and find a way to show them the love of Jesus, that is exactly what you are called to do.” I believe this. And we don’t stop and check a box after that one. There is another and another. Each one desperately seeking to know that someone truly cares about them. They need to know there is a Savior.
There are no red letters in God’s Word demanding that we have a massive social media following or so many likes for each post. What the Bible does say in red letters (and if you don’t know, many Bibles have the words of Jesus printed in red.) is that we are to love Him and love others. That is our first calling.
Each of us has that calling as our first task. But, God also places a special call on each of our lives for specific works He has in mind for us to do. Never think you are not capable or don’t have the skills. God will never call you for a task for which He will not also equip you. Most of the great people in the Bible denied their capabilities for what God had called them, but He equipped each one to do great things.
He will equip you too! Spend some serious time with God, listening for His voice. Spend time in His Word. Spend time with His people and learn what it is God has called you to do. It will make a difference!
