Making a Difference

We hear lots of talk these days about heroes. Of course, our heroes these days are the front line workers from medical professionals to grocery store stockers. All those who make sacrifices for our safety are today’s heroes.

I saw a question recently that asked what you would want your super power to be, if you could choose one. There are certainly plenty of super powers to choose from. Invisibility, strength, X-ray vision, flying, webs coming out of the palm of your hands (?) The choices are plentiful. But, what would you want out of all the choices?

I will be really honest with you. My very first thought at the moment when I saw the question was that I would want my super power to be the ability to love in spite of and not because of. What I mean is that I would always have the ability to love people no matter what they have or have not done and not because of whatever they might have done for me. That is not always easy. And, that would probably not always be my first choice for a super power either! I do love the idea of flying!

I thought about this all night and why that was my first thought. I am not always that loving and precious! But, loving without qualifications was the first thing that popped into my head. Next on the list would be the ability to ease brokenheartedness. As I write this, someone very close to me is heartbroken, which breaks my heart so I need to add that to my list of super powers I would wish for. I would like the power to ease a person’s hurting heart with just a simple touch or thought.

How about the ability to forgive and to never withhold forgiveness from anyone? That would be a good super power. To not harbor resentment or ill feelings toward anyone. To just forgive and let it go! How peaceful that would make life. And then, what if I had the ability to give peace to everyone around me if they would just ask me? That would be perfect! All those around whose hearts are troubled and their minds are whirling with the worries of the day, I could just offer them a lasting peace. A peace that no one could even understand!

Those are some really great superpowers and it occurs to me that the superhero I just built is someone I already know. The Savior, Jesus Christ has every single one of these super powers and so many more. The original superhero for all of us, for every situation!

He is waiting with all His wonderful powers and His love to make a difference today, in this very uncertain time in which we are living.  And the thing is, that He will share His powers with us. His children can offer all these super powers to those around us. We are not as powerful as He is, for sure, but He shares with us all of what He has. We can be that one who loves without condition. We can be the one who forgives, always. We can be that one who offers help to the troubled and brokenhearted. We can be that one who offers peace.

Do you know this Superhero? If not, meet Him today. It will make a difference in your life!
