In the latest Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC) girls rankings, not much has changed at the number one spot, meaning the Brownfield Lady Cubs are still at the top. Followed up with Shallowater at #2, Jim Ned number at #3, Canadian at #4 and to round out the top five, Fairfield sits at #5. There are a total of eight Region-I 3A girls teams in the top 25 which is almost a third of the rankings.
On top of the Lady Cubs being in the Top 25, another Terry County team broke into the Top 25 in Class 1A. The Wellman-Union Lady Cats now sit at #21 in the latest rankings. This is the first time in five years that the Lady Cats cracked the Top 25. There are no other teams in District 3-3A that are ranked. District 7-1A which holds Meadow and Wellman-Union, has one other ranking which is Whiteface, who sits at #3.
This week the #1 Lady Cubs take on Class 5A Amarillo Tascosa at home, then they travel to Canyon for the Canyon Tournament. Times and teams will be announced. The Meadow Lady Broncos will head to Plains on Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2021, and will host their own tourney Thursday through Saturday, Dec. 2 -4, 2021. The #21 Wellman-Union Lady Cats will travel to Lorenzo Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2021, and then come back home to host Southland on Friday, Dec. 3, 2021.
