Lady Cubs will use last two district games to prepare for playoff run

The Brownfield Lady Cub Volleyball team travels over to Lamesa this evening Oct. 19, 2021 to take on the Golden Tors in a district matchup. This is the second to last game of the district season of volleyball for the Lady Cubs as they sit 8-0 in district. If they win tonight they will be back-to-back District Champions and of course the Lady Cubs have clinched a playoff berth.

Brownfield which is ranked 18 in the Texas Girls Coaches Association knows that when they begin the playoffs it will be a tough road. Coach Malorie Ellis is excited about tonight matchup and hopes to get this win so they will have officially clenched district champ title. Coach Ellis knows whats in store for the next few week and said, “For the next two games I just hope we can grow in our blocking to better prepare us for playoffs. Littlefield will be a good match to end district with. We are looking at playing Tornillo or Kermit.”

There are three top-10 teams in Region I, so the path to the State Tourney is not easy. The Lady Cubs could potentially face-off with #3 Holiday in the Region I Semi-finals. Coach Ellis and company would like to avenge their loss to Holiday last season in the Regional Semi-finals where they were swept in three sets 25-17, 25-20, 25-22. If they can get that far and take down the Lady Eagles, the Lady Cubs could possibly go up against #5 Bushland or #10 Shallowater.
