The Brownfield Lady Cubs and Runnin’ Cubs took the 86-mile trip northwest to Muleshoe and came back home as both winners. The Lady Cubs outscored Muleshoe all four quarters. In the first quarter, the Lady Cubs only allowed 2-pts by Muleshoe outscoring them 11-2. In the second quarter, Brownfield continue uping their score to 20-9, having nine points. It was early in the third quarter where the Lady Mules would make a small comeback and get within five points, however, Brownfield would get 15 on the board bringing the score 35-22 at the end of the third. The Lady Cubs would finish out the game adding ten more points winning 45-28. This helped them to improve to 4-1 in district action. Maya Martinez and Amery Pauda both led the team with nine points each. Lucy Guzman and Kayleigh Saldana had eight a piece. Following that, Allie Coffey had seven, and Kyndal Huerta had four. The Lady Cubs will take on the Fillies of Denver City Friday evening Jan. 12, 2024 who is one game behind Brownfield in the district standings

For the Runnin’ Cubs, they had a sluggish start to the game and allowed the first quarter to be close, still outscoring 20-12. In the second they picked up the pace outscoring the Mules 15-6 bringing the halftime score to 35-18. The Runnin’ didn’t stop there either outscoring the Mules 14-7 in the third, adding to the 49-25. In the fourth, Brownfield didn’t look back and outscored Muleshoe again, 23-16 winning 72-41 and improving to 4-0 in district. Jeron Lawrence led the way in points with 22, Jo Jo Carillo was next with 18. Coach McPherson again used his whole bench and each one had a score. The Runnin’ Cubs will stay home on Friday, Jan. 12, 2024, to host 3-0 Denver City.
