Both Lady Cubs and the Runnin’ Cubs came into Friday night’s January 6, 2023, game undefeated in district action, however only one left the court still undefeated in district. Unfortunately, the Lady Cubs couldn’t hold on to the Lamesa Golden Tors as they lost 39-26. The Lady Cubs came into Friday night’s game 3-0 in district action, but when they began the game, there was one player missing from the court which was Junior #11, Rhianna Miranda. She set out with an injury.

The Lady Cubs outscored the Tors 7-6 in the first and the Tors outscored Brownfield in the 2nd 9-8 and were tied 15 all at halftime. Both defenses were hitting on all cylinders during the first half.
Going into the 3rd, the Tor’s defense stepped up their game and only allowed four points from the Lady Cubs and outscoring them 9-4 bringing the 3rd to an end with Lamesa up 24-19. In the 4th, it didn’t get any easier for the Lady Cubs as Lamesa’s defense continued to stifle Brownfield and cause turnovers. Lamesa would outscore Brownfield 15-7 and win 39-26. The Lady Cubs are now 3-1 in district action. One thing to note was of the 26 points the Lady Cubs scored, 16 of them were from free throws.
The top scores were from Senior #35 Kamryn Watkins who had 7 points followed by Senior #13 Jaelyn with six points and Sophomore #3 Lucy Guzman also with six points.
Like that of the Lady Cubs, the Runnin’ Cubs came into Friday night’s game 2-0 in district and would leave the court 3-0 after their 62-46 win over Lamesa. Although Brownfield took the win, they did not lead the whole game, they were outscored by the Tors 19-15 in the 1st quarter, but Freshman #13 Pedro Rodriguez helped keep Brownfield alive in the 1st quarter with his two 3-pointers. The Runnin’ Cubs turned it around going into halftime Brownfield led 27-25 outscoring Lamesa 12-6 in the 2nd.

In the 3rd, the Runnin’ Cubs came alive both on offense and defense. Brownfield outscored Lamesa 18-6 and Rodriguez again had two more 3-pointers to keep the game going and end the 3rd leading 45-31. Lamesa would try to make a comeback in the 4th, however, the Runnin’ Cubs outscored the Tors 17-15 winning the game 62-46 and improving their district record to 3-0.
Top scoring of the night was Senior #23 Malik Mason with 15 points followed by Freshman #13 Pedro Rodriguez with 14 points, and Freshman #12 Jeron Lawrence.
The Lady Cubs and Runnin’ Cubs will travel over to Littlefield Tuesday, January 10, 2023 to take on the Lady Cats and Wildcats. Tipoff is slated for 6:00 pm.
