Wellman-Union hosted the First Annual Turkey Classic Basketball Tournament on Friday and Saturday, November 19 and 20. The good news is that both the Lady Cats and the Cats came out on top.
The Ladies defeated Wilson in the first game of the tournament by a score of 64 – 7. Leading scorers were Mckenzie Harp with 12, Sadie Crowley with 14, and Camryn Resendez with 10.
They then faced Sharp Academy and came away with the 56 – 16 victory. Resendez led all scorers with 17 point. Kaley Cavazos had 12.
They faced Talkington Academy on Saturday, and again came away with the victory. Cavazos had 9 points. Harp had 6 points. Horton had 8 points, Crowley had 7 points. Very balanced scoring attack.
On the Cats side of things, the boys defeated Wilson in their first game by a score of 49-22. Toby and Levi DePoyster both had 14 points.
They faced Sharp Academy in their second game of the tourney and came away with a 68-33 victory. Julius Alaniz had 18 points.Toby DePoyster had 16. Keagon Dominguez had 12 points.
Hart pulled out of the tournament, so the Cats had no third game.
