County Judge J.D. Butch Wagner and the County Commissioners had a meeting on Monday, December 19th. The Commissioners had a lot on their plate as they had 12 items on the agenda. The first item on the agenda was to approve the minutes from the last meeting on December 5th. The Commissioners then proceeded to pay the Terry County bills and examine and discuss the monthly reports from the County Clerk, District Clerk, The Sheriff, Justice of the Peace, County Judge, and the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension. With all the monthly reports looking good, the Commissioners voted to approve the item. Also in the agenda, the Commissioners approved the 2023 bond for Krystal Valentine, as well for the IRS mileage rate for business travel, which increased from 58.5 cents to 62.5 cents per mile.

The Commissioner moved to the next item, which was to approve Michaels Dorris’s Investigator Conference in Forth Worth scheduled from Jan.30 through Feb. 2nd. The next item was to approve Commissioner Precinct 3 Martin Lefevere to purchase a packer. Commissioner Lefevere added, “I am getting a tire packer, instead of a $400,000 machine to pull that 4430, and hopefully we can build some roads.” The Commissioners then brought up JR Cudd with attorney Ryan Gentry to review the application of the plat for Hamm Estates North of Wellman. The commissioners looked at the documents and approved the item. The next item was an extension to the last item as it was to approve the sale of County property through the Sealed Bid Process and to appoint Commissioner Mike Swain to oversee the sale of those properties. After much discussion that item was approved.

As the meeting approached its end, Judge Wagner gave a heartfelt speech on his last meeting as the County Judge, “Our next meeting will be on January 9th which Tony Serbantez will be in at that time. Other than that guys I have enjoyed being here the last 12 years with all of you. I don’t want to get emotional, but I loved working for y’all and it’s been a pleasure working for the county I hope that I did some good while I was here because I know all of y’all (Commissioners) have done really great here”. The Commissioners expressed their sincere gratitude to Judge Wagner, and with tears looming in the air they adjourned the meeting.
