A memorial service for James Edward (Ed) Thurman were held Friday March 25, 2022
at Beck Funeral Homes, 1700 E. Whitestone Blvd., Cedar Park, TX. 78613.
Visitation will be at 1:30 p.m. with service beginning at 2:00 p.m. The family has
requested masks to be worn.
Ed passed away peacefully on Friday, February 18, 2022. He was born May 26,
1948, in Brownfield, Texas to the late James Edward Thurman and Ruth Warren
Thurman.
He graduated from Brownfield High School in 1966. During high school he played
varsity football and sang in the choir, achieving the honor of all region in both!
Soon after school, Ed enlisted in the United States Army. He proudly served his
country in the Vietnam War, attaining the rank of Staff Sargent and was awarded
the Army Commendation Medal and the Bronze Star. After returning home with
an honorable discharge, Ed began his college studies. He gradated from The
University of Texas Tech in 1974 and started his career as a computer
programmer. He continued to be a very Conservative man who loved his country
and family.
Ed met Becky Fuchs in Austin and they were married in 1978. Together they had 3
children and resided in the Austin area. He started his career in the floorcovering
business that would span over 30 years winning many sales production awards. He
also had his Real Estate license and worked 4 years as a partner with Becky
achieving a Multimillion Dollar Producer status each of those years.
His first son Eric was born premature and died after 3 days. Ed’s second son,
Jordan, followed in his father footsteps and played football in middle and high
school. Ed enjoyed every minute watching his son with pride as a lineman for
Leander High School. He also enjoyed co-coaching his third child, Lynsey, with
her softball teams and helped her raise two grand champion pigs in the FFA
program.
Even though his rheumatoid arthritis ravaged his body, he was an avid golfer,
hunter, fisherman and worked fulltime until his retirement at 71 years of age.
He was preceded in death by his first son, Eric Edward Thurman, his brother,
Warren Daniel Thurman, his mother Ruth Warren Thurman and father James
Edward Thurman. He is survived by his wife, Becky of 43 years, his son Jordan
Edward Thurman and wife Meagan of Leander, daughter, Lynsey Elaine Thurman
of Nollanville, and his beloved grandson, Tucker Joseph Thurman of Leander.
Ed is also survived by his sisters Patricia Ruth Cox of Colorado Springs, CO. and
Leslie Elaine Alexander of NYC, NY, his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Joann
and Jimmy Williams of Houston, TX and many nieces and nephews.
