Welcome back to Horton’s Pick ‘Ems. I went 52-28 last week. Hopefully, this week will be better. Most games are from the West Text area, which includes the South Plains, Panhandle, Permian Basin, Big Country, and Concho Valley. In the list below, there are 80 games in Week 2, Sept. 5-7, 2024. The school (team) on the left is Eric Horton’s pick. We encourage you all to pick which team will win.
There are a few good games this week. Brownfield looks to get back on track with a win over Slaton. It is their Homecoming! LBK Cooper takes on LBK Coronado. The Pirates should win this one, but the Mustangs will fight hard. Seminole travels to Shally. Although the Indians are not ranked, and the Mustangs are now, I still believe Seminole will take this one. This next game is a highlight across the state as 3A DI #5 Bushland takes on 3A DII #2 Canadian. I’m going with Canadian on this one. It will be close, but the Wildcats edge them out.
The next game is Ropes hosting New Home. Although New Home won over a school three times its size, the Eagles are poised to make a statement. There are about 15 miles between both schools, and they have a history. Even though they are not in the same district or division, this will be a rivalry atmosphere. In the six-man ranks, Whiteface travels up to the town without a frown, Happy. In DCTF, Whiteface sits at #4, and Happy is #6. In SixManFootball, Happy sits at #3, and Whiteface is #4. So, needless to say… there won’t be a 45 point mercy rule applied and Whiteface will edge them out, most likely on a last play.
