Seagraves Texas, Funeral Services for Harlan Divere Miller, 91, will be held on Wednesday, May 2, 2018, at the First Baptist Church of Seagraves, with Rev. Dan Reynolds officiating with the services under the direction of Ratliff Funeral Home of Seagraves.
Harlan Divere Miller passed away on Sunday morning the 28th of April 2018, in Lubbock, Texas.
A native of Brownfield, Harlan was born on the 2nd of May 1926 to the late Oden and Naomi Miller.
Harlan attended the local one-room Harmony School in Terry County, where he rode his horse every day until he reached the 8th grade.
At an early age, Harlan found the value in hard work and a skilled trade. Along with being taught the trade of blacksmithing from his father, he taught himself the trades of carpentry, leatherworking, farming and animal husbandry, and welding.
To those who knew him, he was a man of great vision, someone who could see things that were to come, where nothing was before. To his family, he was a cornerstone and one to follow.
He was a builder, a craftsman, a farmer, and a shepherd. There is not a day that anyone can remember that you would not find Harlan welding, mending, repairing, or piecing together a project in his shop. Harlan’s most prized possession was his family, and he was their greatest love. In addition, he was blessed to have many very special friends that spanned several generations, most of whom treasured that many stories he would share about what he had witnessed in life.
Harlan had two great passions that defined him: The land that he worked and the life he would give to his family. The first would give him what he needed to provide for the latter.
Harlan was a member of the Seagraves First Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years Alma Dean Miller. His parents Oden and Naomi Miller, Brothers Dale and Wyndal Miller, and son-in-law Donny Fields.
He is survived by his brother Orville Miller of Springhill, Florida; his daughter Connie Fields of Seagraves, sons Bob Miller of Seagraves, Jim, and wife April Miller of Seagraves. He is also survived by his grandchildren Ginger Langehennig and husband Mark, Debra Barrera and husband Daniel, Dustin Miller and wife Jessica, Derrick Miller and wife Ashley; his great-grandchildren Vondee, Drew, Ryan, and Jenna Langehennig, Steffen, and Jonah Calvin Barrera, Tinley Miller, and Reagan and Rylan Miller; and his great-great-grandchild Eli Langehennig.
