First measles death reported

Officials have confirmed that a person infected with measles has died at a hospital in Lubbock, marking the first death since the outbreak began in late January.

Representatives from the Texas Tech Health Sciences Center reported that the patient was being treated at Covenant Children’s Hospital. The patient’s age has not been disclosed.

The outbreak has affected nine counties, resulting in a total of 124 confirmed cases. Since last month, 18 patients have been hospitalized.
