Emilio A. Mendez, SR, age 89 passed from this life on October 31, 2015 in Lubbock.

Rosaries will be held Tuesday – Thursday, November 3 – November 5, 2015 at 6:30 P.M at Mark A Jones Memorial Chapel.

Funeral Mass will be Friday, November 6, 2015 at 10:00 A.M., at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with Father Edwardo Teo officiating.  Burial will follow at Brownfield Cemetery in Brownfield. Personal services have been entrusted to Mark A Jones Funeral Directors of Brownfield.

Emilio was born to Sabas and Juanita Mendez on January 15, 1926 in Karnes City, TX.  He met and married the love of his life, Maria De Jesusa Torres, on March 1, 1948 in George west, Texas. She precedes him in death, after 61 years of marriage, on August 10, 2009.  He moved his family to Ropesville in 1958 and then later to Brownfield in 1963.

Emilio worked as a farm hand for the late Robert E. Smith for 32 years and retired in 1990. He was an active member at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.  He participated in the Knights of Columbus, Scared Hearts and the Curillista.

His family remembers how he loved to fish, sing, dance, watch baseball, boxing and wrestling.  He was an awesome cook.  His tamales, tortillas and menudo were great.   Emilio always had a smile on face; he loved to visit with everyone and was always friendly.

Those left to cherish his memories are 6 sons: Emilio Mendez, Jr of Anton; Francisco Mendez,  Guadalupe Mendez and wife Lori, Marcos and Carlos Mendez all of Brownfield and Alfredo Mendez and wife Sylvia of Hobbs; 5 daughters: Eloisa Medina and husband Jose Angel and Elida Mendoza all of Brownfield; Elena Zuniga and husband Mario and Jesusa Mendez all of Lubbock and Elidia Ramirez and husband Alberto of Cleburne;  1 brother: Sabas Mendez of Lubbock; 1 sister: Audelia Cortez of Lubbock; He was also blessed with 32 grandchildren, 73 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by 1 son: Juan Mendez; 4 brothers, 3 sisters, 2 grandsons, 2 great granddaughters and 1 great grandson and 1 daughter-in-law: Patricia E. Mendez.

In Lieu of flowers the Mendez family has requested all flowers be sent to Hospice of the South Plains 1401 9th St, Lubbock, TX 79401 and Palliative Care Unit, 3615 19th st Lubbock, TX 79410.
