- A patient has been identified in Paris, France via a frozen sputum sample that was infected and hospitalized with COVID-19 in December. This patient had not travelled internationally, and the finding indicates that the disease spread earlier and faster to Europe than initially suspected.
- German drug maker BioNTech in partnership with Pfizer has started human clinical trials for a Coronavirus vaccine. This vaccine uses a mRNA approach that triggers an immune response. Pfizer claims they could have millions of doses ready by the end of 2020 if the vaccine trials go well.
