The Brownfield Cubs 2022 team has brought tremendous honor to the legacy of Cub Football, and this hundredth year. Friday night was no different, as the Cubs faced the Slaton Tigers winning 20-6.
This was Senior Night for 17 Cub Seniors.
The defense was the name of the game all night long as the Cub defense showed just how tough they really are, holding Slaton to only six points in the game. Slaton had been averaging 19 points a game.

The game was deadlocked at 0-0 at the end of the first quarter, as neither team could muster any offense. The Cubs finally found the end zone in the second quarter on a pass from JJ Martinez to Kayden Moore. Yahir Molina was good for the PAT. And 7-0 was the score as the teams went into the half.
In the third quarter, Josh Gonzales found pay dirt, and again Yahir was good for the PAT, bringing the score to 14-0. Slaton was finally able to score on a recovered fumble, but their PAT was no good.
The score going into the fourth quarter was 14-6, Cubs.
Josh scored one more time before the game ended bringing the final score to 20-6, as the PAT failed.
The 2nd place Cubs will face Muleshoe in the Bi-District round at Levelland on Thursday, November 10 at 7 p.m. Muleshoe comes into the contest with a 7-3 record. Muleshoe also handed the Cubs their first defeat of the season on September 30, when the Cubs fell 39-37.
