The Cubs won the toss and elected to receive the ball in the second half. On Slaton’s opening series, they would move the ball a little bit, however, the Cubs defense would cause the Tigers to punt. On the Cubs opening series, they were able to get a first down getting the ball to the 38. On the Cubs next series of downs, it didn’t take long for Brownfield to get on the scoreboard with a 62 yard rushing TD from Trey Timmins and the PAT was good. Cubs would lead 7-0 with 8:28 in the 1st. Slaton got the ball back and began another series. This time the Tigers would drive the ball down the field taking their time. Slaton got a first down at midfield with 6:40 left in the 1st. The Tigers capitalized again setting up another 1st & 10 on the Cub’s 39. Slaton then drove the ball down to the 15 yard line 2:50 left in the 1st, however the Cubs defense kept Slaton out of the end zone for the first three downs. Slaton would advance the ball to get a TD, however the penalty flag was thrown for an ineligible man down field, causing no TD and a 5 yard penalty. The Cubs stopped the Tigers on 4th down and took the ball over on the 20 yard line with a minute left in the 1st. The Cubs led 7-0 at the end of the 1st.

Going into the 2nd, the Cubs would end up having to punt the ball at the 11:45 mark and Slaton would end up with the ball on on the Cub 48. The Tigers got a 20 yard run and a first down on the Cubs 26 yard line. Then Slaton broke away to get a first and goal at the 3 yard line with 9:01 left in the 2nd. The Tigers punched the ball in with a three yard rushing TD at the 8:54 mark and the PAT was good with the score tied 7-7. Cubs had a 40 yard return on the kickoff setting them up on their 40 yard line. Jordan Stell had an impressive 20 yard run setting up another 1st & 10 at the Tigers 46 yard line with 7:36 left in the 2nd. The Cubs are 4th & 2, and unfortunately received a false start penalty backing them up out four-down territory and punted the ball. Slaton received the ball and had a 25 yard return to set up their next series starting at their own 45. Next the Tigers struck again with a 55 yard rushing TD and and the two-point conversation to add to the score allowing the Tigers to take the lead 15-7 with 5:17 in the 2nd

Cubs will receive the kickoff and end up on the 9-yard line. On 1st down, the Cubs lost two yards, making it 2nd & 12. Slaton would intercept the ball on the Cubs 22-yard line with 4:20 left in the 2nd. The Cubs defense forced a field goal for the Tigers. However, they missed the field goal, and the Cubs will take over on their own 20 with 2:52 left in the first half. Slaton received a “hands to the face” penalty, giving the Cubs a 1st & i10, and then lost about 3 yards on the play. The Cubs did take a time-out at the 1:50 mark. The Cubs series would stall and would go into halftime trailing Slaton 7-15.

The Cubs received the kickoff in the second half and got it on their own 34-yard line. Unfortunately, the Cubs would go three and out and have to punt the ball. During the punt, Slaton muffed the catch, and the Cubs recovered the punt at their own 49-yard line with 9:52. On 1st & 10, the Cubs passed the ball. However, Slaton intercepted the pass and brought it back to the Cubs 44 with 9:00 minutes remaining. Slaton will get another first down and have the ball now on the Cub’s 24-yard line. The Tigers had a 21-yard pass for another 1st & 10, with the ball on the Cubs 6-yard line. On third and goal at the 9-yard line, the Tigers found their way into the end zone, but a holding call took it away. Slaton got tricky with a reverse play and had a 19-yard rushing TD and the two-point conversion was no good. Slaton extended their lead 21 – 7. The Cubs got the ball back and Slaton got a facemask penalty from the Tigers, giving them a 1st & 10 at their own 34, Slaton led at the end of the 3rd quarter 21-7

Going into the fourth, the Cubs turned the ball over on an interception with 11:29 in the fourth quarter, and Slaton returned the ball to their own 26-yard line. The Cub’s defense caught a break by forcing a fumble on third down and recovered it, and now they are on the Tiger 29-yard line with 10:09 left in the game. The Cubs would score on third down with Timmins, and the PAT was Good. Now, the Cubs shrunk the lead to 21-14 Tigers with 9:25 left. Slaton got the ball back, drove downfield, and had a 6-yard rush for a TD, and the PAT was no good with 5:55 left in the game, and the Tigers extended their lead 27-14. Brownfield got the ball again, but the ball was intercepted. Slaton drove the ball down the field to score one more time making it 34-14.

Next for the Cubs is the Roosevelt Eagles on Friday, Sept. 13th, at Roosevelt, 7:00pm kickoff
