The Brownfield Runnin’ Cubs took down the #15 Tornillo Coyotes Monday night and added another gold ball to their trophy case after winning a Region I Class 3A Bi-District Championship, but the celebration is over and now they move to take on a scrappy Spearman team.
The Lynx has had a decent season being runner-up in District 1-3A with an 8-2 record, losing once to each Bushland and Canadian. Bushland took the #1 seed out of District 1-3A and lost in Bi-District to the #4 seed Abernathy out of District 2-3A.

The Runnin’ Cubs and the Lynx have a few things in common coming into this game. Both are on a 4-game win streak, both played Clarendon, who was the 2022 Class 2A State Champs and when both teams played the Broncos, they were in the top 10. Spearman lost 61-53 and Brownfield lost 62-57. Also, both played Denver City, Spearman once winning 56-33, and of course, the Runnin’ Cubs dropping the first game to DC 42-40 and winning 70-47 the second time.
Looking at the scoring from both squads, Spearman has averaged 51 points a game and has allowed an average of 42 points a game. Brownfield since their win over Tornillo is now averaging 57 points a game and allowing 52 points a game. With these numbers, both teams look similar. One difference is Spearman has a couple of players over six feet, Brownfield’s tallest players are 5’11”.

Obviously, this will be a team effort. It looks as if the Lynx has a good defense, so Brownfield will need to continue their defensive game as they had against Tornillo. Turnovers can be an issue, so as long as the Runnin’ Cubs can control the ball, they will certainly be in the game the whole way through. Finally, Malik Mason will need another stellar performance under the basket, plus Jo Jo Carillo will need to make things happen on the perimeter.
