Brownfield City Council hears update, votes to open Sports Complex

The Brownfield City Council met in regular session on Thursday morning, June 18. A light agenda was worked by the Council.

The Council heard an update from Katherine Ray of Ray & Associates, Inc. regarding the Compensation and Classification Study being done at the request of the City Council. Ray stated that things were going well. The company has interviewed 44 employees and received all questionnaires from employees. The next step is hearing from comparative cities. The completed results should be available by August 1.

The Council also voted to open the new Brownfield Sports Complex for tournament play on August 1. Tournaments will be scheduled through City Hall and the Parks and Recreation Department. (Look for more information on this to follow.)

Eddy Holloway, CPS was once again retained to conduct an audit of the financial statements of the City of Brownfield for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2020.

There was discussion regarding the moving of the next regularly scheduled Council meeting from July 2 to July 9, but the decision was made to leave the meeting date as is.

The Council also voted to extend the Local Disaster-Mayoral Order No. 5 Due to Public Health Emergency to slow and prevent the spread of the COVID-19 in the City of Brownfield. This order mirrors the Governor’s orders.

Having no further business, the meeting was adjourned. The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Brownfield City Council will be on Thursday, July 2, at 7:30 a.m. in the Council Chambers.
