The Lady Cubs and Runnin’ Cubs traveled over to Wildcat Country to take on Littlefield in two District 3-3A games and both came home empty-handed as they couldn’t get the ball fall in.
Beginning with the Lady Cubs, they came in with a one-game losing streak and were hoping to notch another district win, however, the Lady Cats were just too much for them. Brownfield was outscored 18-10 in the 1st quarter. In the 2nd quarter, the Lady Cubs kept pace with Littlefield but were still outscored 9-8 making the halftime score 31-22, however, Junior #23 Amery Pauda helped keep the score within reach with her 3-pointer and going 5 for six at the free throw line.

Coming into the 3rd, Brownfield again traded shots with Littlefield and was outscored by one point 10-9 making the score 41-31 going into the 4th. With only ten points behind, the Lady Cubs were still within reach of catching up, but the Lady Cats decided to go on a 7-0 run. Brownfield could not get much to sink and was outscored in the 4th 15-9 and falling in their second district loss in row 56-38.
The lead point scorer was Freshman #1 Alliey Coffey with 9 points and followed up by Amery Pauda with 8 points.
On the boys’ side of things, the Runnin’ Cubs just came off a great win over Lamesa last Friday night and were still undefeated in district action. Unfortunately, Brownfield would not leave Wildcat Country undefeated as they lost 74-54. In three of the four quarters, the Runnin’ Cubs were outscored. Beginning in the 1st Littlefield’s defense only allowed 12 points from Brownfield being outscored 18-12. In the 2nd things really unraveled for Brownfield as they were outscored 22-13. The Wildcat’s defense would stifle the Runnin’ Cubs inside game by shutting down Senior #23 Malik Mason and keeping him scoreless the first half. But it wasn’t just Mason, the rest of the team shot 9 of 21 from the field. The Runnin’ Cubs went into halftime down 40-25.

In the 3rd, Brownfield began to gain some traction as they outscored Littlefield 13-12 and Mason was finally allowed to score two buckets. This brought the score to 52-38 in favor of Littlefield. In the 4th, the Wildcats continued their dominance over Brownfield. Although Freshman #13 Pedro Rodriguez busted two 3-pointers in a row, it was not enough to swing the momentum around for the Runnin’ Cubs, and was outscored 22-16 ending the game with their first district loss 74-54.
Top points went to Junior #1 JoJo Carrillo with 16 points, next was Freshman #13 Pedro Rodriguez with 14 points and Freshman #12 Jeron Lawrence with 12 points.
The Lady Cubs and Runnin’ Cubs will tipoff against Muleshoe at home on Friday, January 13, 2023 at 6:00 pm.
