Brownfield Lady Cub Volleyball
The Lady Cubs had a tough week as they lost both games, falling 3-0 to Crane and 3-0 to Coahoma. These losses have placed them fifth in the district standings, with two games remaining.
Tomorrow evening, Tuesday, October 21st, the Lady Cubs will travel to Lamesa. In the first round of the district, Brownfield swept Lamesa 3-0, with set scores of 25-21, 25-18, and 25-22. This time, the Lady Cubs will be playing on Lamesa’s home court, which could make a difference.
On Saturday, October 25th, Brownfield will host Compass Academy. In their first matchup in the district, the Lady Cubs lost in another 3-0 sweep, with set scores of 10-25, 16-25, and 19-25.
If the Lady Cubs win against Lamesa and Compass this week, they will secure a spot in the playoffs. However, if Brownfield loses just one of the last two games, they will have to play a seeding match against Crane for the fourth spot in the playoffs. If Brownfield heads to the playoffs, they follow Denver City into the Division I bracket of the playoffs. If the Lady Cubs lose both games, they will be eliminated from playoff contention.

Wellman-Union Lady Cat Volleyball
The Lady Cats are in a strong position to secure the district runner-up spot and earn the second seed for the playoffs, especially after their recent victory over Grady, winning 3-1 last Saturday. With a 5-2 district record, they have one game left in district play. Tomorrow night, they will host Wilson. In their first matchup of the district season, the Lady Cats swept Wilson 3-0 in a quick game. T
omorrow night, Wellman-Union will have the opportunity to improve their district record and enter the postseason on a two-game winning streak. Unlike classes 2A through 6A, in 1A, they do not split into two divisional brackets. Only three teams qualify for the playoffs, which allows the district champion to receive a one-game bye. The Lady Cats could potentially play either Kelton or Widorado. This format may change next season after UIL realignments, as more 1A schools are adding volleyball programs.
