On Thursday, March 28, 2024, the Brownfield High School Spirit Winds will travel to the campus of Eastern New Mexico University in Portales NM for a Pre-UIL preparation session with ENMU School of Music Faculty.  Brownfield ISD Director of Bands Will Burks said, “We are proud to be able to provide Brownfield HS students the opportunity to work with University professors as the band prepares for the April 9 UIL performance on the stage of Harral Auditorium in Plainview.” According to Burks, the Director of Bands, Mr. Dustin Seifert, and Assistant Director Dr. Sid Shuler will rehearse with Spirit Winds on Thursday morning.

After the rehearsal ends, BHS band students will have lunch with ENMU students at the Campus Union Building which is coincidentally referred to on campus as THE CUB.  According to Burks, students will have the opportunity to visit with University Faculty and get a real-time feel of the university experience.  “Putting our students on a university campus is a tremendous experience as they begin their journey toward post-secondary education.  We are grateful to Mr. Seifert and the ENMU Music Faculty for making this event possible,” said Burks.

BHS Bands will perform in the UIL Concert competition in the Region 16 1A-4A High School Band Evaluations on April 9, 2024, at Wayland Baptist University in Plainview. The Non-Varsity band, with 42 members, will perform at 11:20 a.m. and the Varsity band, with 39 members, will perform at 2:00 p.m.
