Brownfield Cubs Football Recap & Preview

Game Recap: Brownfield vs. Shallowater

The Brownfield Cubs faced a tough challenge Friday night against the Shallowater Mustangs and fell 63-0. We couldn’t establish an offensive rhythm or make the defensive stops needed to stay competitive. Shallowater outmatched us on both sides of the ball, but we’ll keep fighting and competing until the final whistle of our season.

Despite the outcome, I am extremely proud of the 18 young men who suited up and represented the Brownfield Cubs. This team faced tremendous adversity throughout the season, yet these players kept showing up, working hard, and persevering. Their commitment to one another and their willingness to keep battling through difficult circumstances speak volumes about their character.

Our record does not define this football team’s heart. We understand where we are, but we also recognize the valuable lessons that come from facing adversity. We will continue to emphasize accountability, effort, toughness, and pride in representing Brownfield.

Game Preview: Brownfield vs. Bushland

The Brownfield Cubs will take on the Bushland Falcons Friday at 7:00 p.m. in another challenging matchup.

Bushland is a talented, well-coached football team that will look to establish a balanced offense through both the run and pass. Defensively, the Falcons bring edge pressure and use man-to-man coverage to challenge opposing offenses.

To succeed, we must establish an offensive rhythm early and consistently generate positive yardage on first down. Winning first down will be critical to staying ahead of the chains, creating manageable situations, and sustaining drives. We must execute our assignments, protect the football, and take advantage of opportunities when they present themselves.

Defensively, we will focus on improving our tackling, playing disciplined football, and limiting explosive plays. We must do a better job on early downs to force Bushland into manageable third-down situations for our defense and give ourselves opportunities to get off the field.

Coach Johnson’s Final Thoughts

As we approach the final stretch of our season, our message remains simple: Finish what we started.

We understand the challenges ahead, but quitting has never been an option. Our players have demonstrated tremendous perseverance through injuries, adversity, and difficult circumstances. I am proud of the young men who keep putting on that Brownfield Cubs uniform and competing for their teammates, coaches, school, and community.

This season has taught us lessons we can use to build the future of our football program. We will take what we have learned, identify where we must improve offensively and defensively, and use those lessons as a foundation for growth.

Our responsibility is to keep coaching, developing, and encouraging these young men while maintaining our program’s standards and expectations.

We may not be where we want to be right now, but we will keep fighting, keep growing, and finish this season with pride.

Week 10 Texas High School Football Ranking

TownTalk Media uses Dave Campbell’s Texas Football as the primary source for its weekly high school football rankings. After the preseason polls are released, the rankings move to a Top 10 format in every classification except Class 6A.

For six-man football, TownTalk Media uses two different ranking sources. Based on feedback from local six-man coaches, many consider SixManFootball.com the more accurate ranking system, so we include its Top 25 rankings. We also continue to use Dave Campbell’s Texas Football (TexasFootball.com), which publishes a Top 10 for six-man football.

NOTE: In Classes 6A through 3A, Region I teams are shown highlighted in yellow. In Classes 2A and 1A, teams shown highlighted in yellow are Region I teams, while teams highlighted in blue are from Region II.
