We spend a lot of time noticing what is wrong with the world, but how often do we take time to appreciate the people who quietly make our lives better? There are so many people who may be in the shadows, making our lives so much better by doing what they do. They may not even realize they are making a difference for anyone.
The thing is that we need to spend more time noticing all the little things being done around us. In Hebrews 6:10, we are reminded that God does notice our works and our labors of love. God sees the little things going on all the time, even when we do not.
What about you? Are you doing things for others that may go unnoticed? God does not intend for us to put ourselves out front. He says that whoever is greater will be lesser, and whoever is lesser will be greater. He likes it when we do things for others without expecting recognition, pay, or praise. How hard is it for you to go out of your way for someone without later feeling like someone should’ve noticed? It seems that we always want praise. I think social media has fed into that. I have seen videos of people helping others by giving them food or money. But my question is, what was your motive if you wanted it recorded and then you posted it for others to see?
God says in Matthew, that “our left hand should not know what our right hand is doing.” What did He mean by this? He meant do your good works quietly and without notice. We should not be doing things for the praise of man. We should be doing things for others simply because it needs doing, not because we are trying to look good to the world.
Our purpose in this world is to make a difference in the lives of those around us. And doing it because it is the right thing. Not because we might get something from it, or what other people might say about us. The right thing is always the right thing. So do it!
Life is tough enough these days on a regular basis. Why not try making someone’s life better by doing a nice thing for them in secret. And then letting it STAY a secret! It is an easy thing to show others what they mean to us. Spend some time today thinking about those who are behind the scenes making your life easier. Appreciate them. And then think about who you can help? It will make a difference!
