Horton’s High School Football Picks, Week 4

by Eric

Well, I did better than I did the first two weeks. I got 66 out of 90 picks right, which comes out to 73%. I really believed all three Terry County schools would sweep Friday night, but it just didn’t happen. Of the 24 games I missed, eight of them were Class 2A matchups. Apparently 2A is still giving me fits.

Oh well. Let’s move on.

There really aren’t too many huge games on the schedule this week, so I’ll start with one close to home.

Meadow at Hart: The Broncos are 4-0 all-time against Hart in six-man football. The Longhorns made the move to six-man about 20 years ago, with their first two seasons played as an outlaw program. Now both teams come into this matchup sitting at a perfect 3-0.

According to SixManFootball.com, No. 12 Hart is favored by 29 points. Twenty-nine? I guess we’ll see about that. I know where my loyalties lie.

The Ville (Stephenville) at Abilene Wylie: Stephenville enters as the No. 1 team in Class 4A Division I, while Abilene Wylie wasn’t even in the preseason Top 25 in Class 5A Division II. So why all the fuss?

Because these two programs know each other very well.

Stephenville and Wylie have met every season for the past 14 years, with The Ville holding a 10-4 advantage in the series. I think the Bulldogs will give Stephenville some trouble early, especially with the home crowd behind them, but eventually the Yellow Jackets will simply be too much.
