Another shooting took place in Brownfield, early morning Wednesday, February 12, 2025. Approximately 2:25am, Officers of the Brownfield Police Department were dispatched to a residence in the 400 Block of West Buckley in reference to a shooting. Arriving officers located a 48-year-old Hispanic male with a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to University Medical Center in Lubbock to receive treatment for his injuries. The Brownfield Police Department was able to locate the suspect in the shooting a short amount of time later in the 200 Block of North 4th Street. The suspect identified as Pablo Cortina, a 62-year-old Hispanic male, has been booked into the Terry County Jail on one count of Aggravated Assault with a deadly weapon. The Brownfield Police Department would like to reassure the public that there is no further danger to the community.
This is the second shooting to occur in Brownfield within nine days. On February 3, 2025, at approximately 7:06 PM, officers from the Brownfield Police Department were dispatched to the 300 block of East Cardwell in response to reports of shots fired in the area. Upon arrival, the officers found a 34-year-old Hispanic male who had been shot. The victim was airlifted to a hospital in Lubbock, where he received treatment and was later released. The suspect in this shooting has not yet been apprehended.
