In Genesis, we hear the beginning of our world. “God created the heavens and the earth.” It goes on and says that God filled the earth and the seas with plants and animal life. The book also says He created light and dark. And He created a man and a woman. Then He rested.
I am seeing a disturbing trend in our time of trying to change what God has given us, or not give Him credit for what He has done. I saw something very innocent recently that said, “Thank you earth, for the flowers.” That is sweet and I suppose, as I said, innocent on the surface. But, why did this person not thank God for the flowers? God is the One who created them. You can say I am being nitpicky, but the truth is that we have so watered down God’s Word and the works of God that so many are not recognizing the truth anymore. Or they find the truth offensive. We have to be serious about teaching our children about God the Creator. God the Father. The God who loves us.
God created the light and dark. He created the heavens and the earth. He created all the vegetation and animal life. He created a man and a woman. He created nothing in between. He called it all good. Then He rested. If God saw it as good, then why do we want to change it? He created things the way He wanted them, according to His plan. And He created man and woman to follow His plan.
These days, we seemed to be wrapped up in what feels good to you. Or what makes you happy. The problem with this is that you are relying on human emotions. God has nothing against happy. But happy is temporary. He wants us to live lives of abundant joy, peace and blessedness. These can only be found in Him. I am happy when we get rain. But I live a life of abundant joy whether the rains come or don’t. I am happy when guacamole is included. But I have peace even if I have to pay for it. Joy and peace are deep feelings from within that are a gift of the Holy Spirit in us. Joy and peace last even in the dark times. Happiness does not. So, this attitude of “just do what makes you happy” is wrong. Happy is an offshoot of joy and peace. Happy is an offshoot of recognizing God our Creator is Lord over all.
We even have “churches” today that preach a gospel of happiness and prosperity. This is not what God has promised us. God never promised us happy days. And there is no
“Mother Earth” that is causing the flowers to grow. There is a God who loves us and wants the best for us and from us. We have got to go back to recognizing that He truly is the Creator of all and that His way is not only the best way, it is the only way.
Worship the Creator, and Him only. It will make a difference!
