The Texas Rangers and Lubbock Police Department are in a joint investigation after the body of 58-year-old Stacey Williams of Lubbock was located near the Union Community on Texas Highway 137 in Terry County this morning, March 13, 2024.
A suspect, Miguel Garcia, 42 was arrested by the Lubbock Police Department after 4:00 p.m. today, in the 100 block of East Tulane Street in Lubbock.
Last night, around 11:25 March 12, 2024 the Lubbock Police were called to the 100 block of Waco Avenue for a report of shots fired. As officers arrived they located Jabaar Smith, 40, with a gunshot wound. He was transported by EMS to University Medical Center with serious,non-life threating injuries. According to the investigation, Williams went outside and “shortly after”, Smith heard a struggle outside of the apartment, and saw Williams was being taken by Garcia against her will. The investigation show that is when Garcia shot Smith and then fled the scene with Williams.
The Terry County Sheriffs Dept. contacted the Texas Rangers to notified of a body on TX Hwy 137 about six miles south of Brownfield in Terry County around 8 a.m. According to the authorities, the body was later positively identified as Williams.
