A blowout on a Gaines County ambulance coming through Wellman on Thursday night resulted in AeroCare being called to transport the critical patient being carried by the ambulance to a Lubbock hospital.

A spokesman for Gaines County EMS posted on Facebook, “Seminole EMS along with AeroCare 4 crew members were transporting an injured patient by ground to UMC in Lubbock. While in route, the unit suffered a blowout to the inside dual on the rear passenger side. the unit was able to be driven safely to the Wellman football field to set up a landing zone.

“Arrangements were made for AeroCare 1 to continue transport to UMC. The blowout did not cause an accident. Thankfully, no one was injured during this event. The unit was repaired and returned to service. It is believed that the unit may have ran over some debris at the scene of the accident causing damage to the tire.”

A number of people reported seeing all the lights and, as the Wellman-Union bus was returning home from tournament, kids were concerned with what was happening.

W-UISD Superintendent Ben Prowell turned on the football field lights to assist with the situation.

There were no injuries sustained in the blowout. This occurred directly behind Wellman-Union Schools on FM 303.
