Brownfield ISD Superintendent Chris Smith was awarded a very prestigious honor this past week when he was given the Vernon Jackson Award from the Lubbock Area Boys and Girls Clubs.
The Hall of Fame honors distinguished staff with a life long service to youth. Smith was thrilled to receive this honor. “I grew up in Boys and Girls Club. I know first hand what they do and how they help. I am honored to receive this award.”
Others who have earned the Vernon Jackson Award include Shaquille O’Neal and actor Denzel Washington.
The award is given to former staff members of Boys and Girls Club who have gone on to serve youth in some way. Aside from growing up involved in Boys and Girls Club, Smith also worked at Boys and Girls Club before getting involved in education.
