The Brownfield Family Aquatic Center has been having many issues since the freeze back in February, much like the pipes in other areas of town.
The City Recreational Department has had to fill and refill the pool a couple of times already, after discovering a major leak in some pipe near the pool.
All the City departments were called in to work in various areas trying to be sure it was all repaired.
The current issue, according to City Manager Jeff Davis, is actually a leak under the pool. “We are hoping to be able to put a liner in the pipe to get us through this summer, then we will be looking at some possible renovation in that area after the pool closes.”
The City announce on Social Media on May 3, that the pool would be opening as scheduled on May 30. Then, on Wednesday, May 26, the City put out an announcement that stated:
“Due to unforeseen mechanical issues, the Brownfield Family Aquatic Center will not be opening on May 30, 2021 as originally planned. The opening has been delayed until further notice. City staff have been working diligently to make the necessary repairs to issues that were caused by the winter storm. We are confident that these repairs will be made quickly and efficiently, and the aquatic center will be ready for swimmers soon! We appreciate your understanding, knowing that the safety of the citizens is always our main concern. We will continue to keep you updated!”
The Rec crew and the City Water Department have been working daily, on getting the needed repairs completed. Davis stated that the pool will open just as soon as it is possible.
