It was on. It was off. It was on. It was off. And then it actually got to happen. With all the COVID-19 hysteria, no one knew for sure right up until race day, whether or not the Firecracker Run would actually happen. But, the gun went off for the 10K runners, followed later by the 3M runners.
The crowd seemed smaller this year, perhaps due to the fact that no spectators were allowed and they started the races separately this year. Forty-one runners ran the 10K and 64 runners competed in the 3M.
Overall winner in the 10K was 13 year-old Resse Pena of Lubbock who ran the race with a time of 40:01.08. Brodey Yates of Brownfield earned a 5th place finish with a time of 51:15.6. Savannah Bingham of Meadow finished in 32nd place with a time of 1:08:27.0.
In the 3M event, Travis Letkemen of Lubbock earned 1st place, finishing with a time of 19:08.1. Brownfield runners and their placings are as follows:
Raquel Perry 10th place
Madison Ellis 14th place
Clint Ellis 15th place
Kate Hesse 21st place
Justin Hesse 22nd place
Jes’Lynn Perry 28th place
Rosa Sales 32nd place
