United States:

  • Total infections: 1,204,475 (Up 23,841)
  • 189,791 recovered ( Up 2,611)
  • 71,078 deaths (Up 2,144)
  • Current mortality rate in U.S. is 5.9% (Up .1%) (Pending infections less than two weeks)
  • A patient has been identified in Paris, France via a frozen sputum sample that was infected and hospitalized with COVID-19 in December. This patient had not travelled internationally, and the finding indicates that the disease spread earlier and faster to Europe than initially suspected.
  • German drug maker BioNTech in partnership with Pfizer has started human clinical trials for a Coronavirus vaccine. This vaccine uses a mRNA approach that triggers an immune response. Pfizer claims they could have millions of doses ready by the end of 2020 if the vaccine trials go well.

  • 216 Texas counties reporting cases (Up 3)
  • No longer able to report community spread by county due to multiple reporting agencies and differing definitions by agency/county
  • Deaths: 925 (Up 23)
  • Total Texas Cases: 33,912 (Up 1,100)
  • Texas mortality rate is 2.7% (No change) (Pending infections less than two weeks)
  • 1,888 lab confirmed COVID-19 patients currently receiving hospital care (Up 355)
  • Largest increase in COVID-19 hospitalizations in a single day
  • 9.6% of hospital beds of the 19,695 available in Texas are occupied by COVID-19 patients 
  • 16,791 Recovered (Up 701)
  • Incidence rate: 147.54 per 100,000 people in Texas have acquired COVID-19 (Up 4.78)

  • 567 cases in Lubbock (Up 7)
  • 46 deaths from Covid-19 in Lubbock (Up 1)
  • 31 Covid-19 patients hospitalized in Lubbock county (Up 3)
  • 255 recovered in Lubbock County (Up 17)
  • There are more recovered than active cases in Lubbock county at this time
  • 691 Covid-19 cases in the South Plains (Up 12)
  • 325 Cases recovered on the South Plains (Up 17)
