For the second year in a row the Fillies ran into number one ranked Bushland and saw their season end.
The Lady Falcons started fast in every set and handed the Fillies a 25-10, 25-10, 25-11 thrashing in a match held on the campus of Lubbock Cooper.
Bushland started off with a quick 3-0 before Marley Jordan recorded the first of her five match kills to end the streak. But that was only a mild bump in the road as the Lady Falcons regained the serve and upped their lead to 11-6. And that lead soon grew to 19-8 and eventually the 25-10 final first set score.
The second set was much the same. After the two teams were tied at 2-2 early in the set Bushland went on a 13-3 run to go up15-5. After that it was just a matter of time before they closed out the set by the same identical 25-10 score.
The Fillies showed a little bit energy in the third set exchanging points and were tied at 3-3. But just like the previous two sets Bushland kept the heat on building a 19-6 lead that was soon 23-8. The Fillies tried a comeback, but it was a case of too little too late as Bushland closed out the set and the match 25-11.
“I felt like we were prepared,” Coach Megan David said after the match. “I thought we had played schools comparable, but we haven’t. They’re No. 1 in the state for a reason, that’s for sure. Of course, we were hoping we could come in here and knock them off, but we just didn’t have a good game today.”
