Story Time: Space

The final StoryTime of the 2018-2019 school year was held Thursday, May 9, 2019 at the Yoakum County Library in Plains. After reviewing the calendar, weather, and pledging the U.S. and Texas flags, it was time to learn about the universe. Those in attendance were Saige, Jedidiah, Ben, Lena, Nellie, Isabella, Reid, Brit, and Tirzah.

To begin with, the book “Our Stars” by Anne Rockwell was read, followed by “Stars! Stars! Stars!” by Bob Barner. The activity song “Zoom, Zoom, Zoom” was a good way to get the wiggles out before the next book, “Astronauts” by Mary Elizabeth Salzmann. The children learned many interesting facts about astronauts, from education to physical requirements, how they eat and exercise in space, and all the equipment they use. “Four Little Rockets”, a flannel board rhyme, had the kids counting down and identifying colors. Two more books, “Space Cows” by Eric Seltzer and “Pete the Cat Out of This World” by James Dean, rounded out the reading portion of the day. The kids really enjoyed two Pixar video clips, “BURN-E” and “La Luna.” Each child left with a snack, coloring sheet, and stickers.

The Yoakum County Library in Plains will begin Summer Reading program signups on Monday, May 20th, with a variety of activities slated for June and July.
