Thomas Ernest Rummel of Lubbock, Texas, passed quietly away on Tuesday, June 13.

He was born on November 15, 1958, to Aubrey and Eloise Rummel in Lubbock, Texas. He served his country as an officer in the US Navy aboard the USS John Adams, a nuclear missile submarine, leaving in 1986. He began working for the Texas Department of Transportation in the Design Division in 1986, retiring in 2011.

Tom was a Renaissance man: an avid reader, a world traveler, a great cook, a movie buff, a computer gamer, an amazing conversationalist, and just an all-around good guy.

He was preceded in death by his parents. Those left to cherish his memory are his sister Phyllis Woods (Bruce) of Brownfield and his brother Ron Rummel (Karen) of Lubbock. Uncle Tom was also that treasured uncle to Brian Woods, Brent Woods, Hayden Rummel (Laura), Mark Rummel (Melanie), Drew Rummel and Elle Rummel. He is also survived by his aunt Evelyn Tidmore and many special cousins and friends.At Tom’s request no services will be held. A celebration to honor Tom’s life will be held later in the fall.The family would like to extend gratitude to the Lubbock Police Department and Resthaven Funeral Home for their support and kindness.
