The final StoryTime of the 2015-2016 school year was held Wednesday, May 18, 2016, at the Yoakum County Library in Plains. The time began with a count-up to eighteen, as well as a discussion of the unusual weather as the children gathered in their rain boots and light jackets. The “Days of the Week” song was full of energy, as well as a new song, “The Waves at the Beach.” The group discussed marine animals such as the lobster, crab, oyster, and jelly fish before participating in the familiar tune.

As the youngsters gathered to situate themselves for the reading of books, the first was a beautifully illustrated new-release called “The Typewriter, ” full of imagination. As the beach was talked about further, the book “Maisy Goes on Vacation” followed the chatter. Lastly, as different plans for the break were discussed “Biscuit Goes Camping” was shared as an alternative to elaborate vacations. The children then got to make their own fishing pond—complete with sticks, yarn, heavy-duty magnets, pipe cleaner “fish,” and paper “water.” Each one excitedly went to see who could make the biggest “catch” of the day!

Those in attendance were Ella & Case Bearden, Ethan Moya, Ethan Garcia, Ian DeLaRosa, Johan Neudorf, Ariah & Andi Coronado, Jordy Bell, Gershom & Ben McAdams, and Kynlee Martin. After their fishing trip, the children settled in for “Curious George Takes a Vacation” episode. Then the word rhyme “Wave Goodbye” was said with giggles, for a final good bye of this season together.

The Yoakum County Library in Plains will begin Summer Reading Program signups on Monday, May 23, with a variety of activities slated for June and July. There will be StoryTimes on Friday, June 3 and June 17 at 10:30-11:15.
