Some of his last words were, I’m in His hands, and he prayed for peaceful rest. We are sad he is gone but are blessed to know because of his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, his prayers were answered and he is truly in God’s hands. J.D., as he was called by many, was born at home in Terry County to G.I. (Bogey) and Cleo Sims. Jerry is survived by his children, Jerri Sims of Irving, Mike Sims of Mineola, Carla (Mark) McMillan of Lubbock and Lori Sims of Houston; grandchildren, Lauren Strong and Chase Havely; brothers, Arvil Walser of Lubbock, Larry and Barry Sims of Brownfield and Terry Sims of Big Spring; along with 11 nieces and nephews. Family and friends will gather to celebrate his life of 79 years on Wednesday, April 27, 2016, at 3 p.m. at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers with a reception following. A tribute of Jerry’s life may be found at www.memorialdesigners.net, where you may leave memories and expressions of sympathy for his family. The family suggests donations to the American Heart Association or American Diabetes Association.
