Summer Food Programs Feed Brownfield and Meadow Kids for Free

Brownfield and Meadow youth ages one through eighteen can enjoy two free meals a day through the month of June, compliments of the Texas Department of Agriculture, Food and Nutrition Division.

The Summer Food Service Program contracts sponsors such as school districts, Boys and Girls Clubs, YMCAs and summer camps to administer the program and provide food to feeding sites. The feeding sites serve food to children. Community partners help with outreach, volunteers, and activities.

In addition, the Seamless Summer Program option enables schools to continue to operate the National School Lunch Program during the summer months. Both programs address hunger and healthy eating to benefit the well-being of Texas’ children.

Texans Bring It! is the outreach campaign to promote the programs.

In Brownfield, breakfast and lunch will be provided at Oak Grove Elementary, 1001 Cactus Lane, Monday through Friday. Breakfast will be served 7:15-8:15am and lunch 11:30am-12:45pm. Lunch will also be served at Jake Geron Park, 400 N. 3rd Street, from 11:15-11:45am; however, no breakfast will be served there. In case of bad weather, no meal can be served at Jake Geron Park. Participants should go to Oak Grove instead.

In Meadow, all meals will be served at the Meadow ISD Cafeteria, 604 4th Street. Breakfast will be from 7:45 to 8:45am and lunch from 11:45am to 1pm.

There is no income requirement or registration. Any child age one to age eighteen may come eat.

If you have  questions, contact: Brownfield–Beverly Webb at 637-2591 or Beverly Cross at 637-2110; Meadow– Meadow ISD at 539-2246.

There are no free lunch programs being offered in the Wellman-Union area this summer.
