Coleman Park becoming prime location for entertainment

For those who like to think about the positive aspects of living in Brownfield, all one has to do is take a look at Coleman Park.

Not too long ago, Coleman Park was just a place where you could go swimming, play a little basketball or volleyball, maybe watch a softball or baseball game or do the traditional cookout/picnic thing.

However, the City of Brownfield decided to replace the old swimming pool with the Brownfield Aquatics Center, which is one of the top water recreation facilities anywhere around. Not only has it drawn local folks but there are many people who come from out of town to enjoy a day in the water.

Then, not too long ago, the city installed a disc golf course in the park. It didn’t take much time at all for the course to bring many more people into the park to enjoy what is fast becoming a popular sport across the state. Many people have said that the Brownfield course is one of the top courses to play in the area.

Also, Parks and Recreation Director Scott Jackson announced that the city was going to install a skatepark for skateboarding and rollerskating enthusiasts. There are a number of youths who have been longing for a place to ride their boards instead of the street, sidewalks or business parking lots. The skatepark will be installed where the basketball courts currently reside on the north end of the park near the Aquatics Center.

In addition, a horseshoe facility will be installed in the near future, and the basketball courts will be erected in a new location inside the park.

“We’re working hard to make Coleman Park one of the finest facilities anywhere around,” Jackson said. “We want a park that not only local residents will be proud of but we also want it to be a place where we can get visitors from out of town as well.”
