Vroom! Vroom!

What do Chris Fails, Jerry Jones, Jet Wilmeth and Sonic Drive-In have in common?

Well…after work the other day, I dropped by Sonic to pick up a sandwich so I could go home and get ready to monitor the Wellman-Union game with Lubbock Harmony. I couldn’t see what was causing the commotion from where I parked, but I could certainly hear it. The air was filled with lots of laughter, loud talk, and vrooming. Then I saw the source of it all: Chris Fails was walking by. Now what could he be up to?

As I backed out of my parking space, I noticed there was a small group of partygoers, and they had brought their cherished toys with them–restored classic cars. Jerry Jones (Brownfield superintendent) had his black and white 57 Chevy, Jet Wilmeth (local farmer) was sporting his early model red Ford coupe and Chris (Meadow sports announcer, farmer, and Meadow school board member) was showing off his red El Camino. They did look like an outstanding group–of cars, that is!

Hoods up and heads inside! The normal stance of proud car daddies. I just couldn’t let them have so much fun without getting in on it.

I pulled my Isuzu Rodeo up behind the classics; honked ever so lightly; and when the three heads popped up from under the hood of the El Camino, I tossed my head back, revved MY engine and then drove off with an ever so slight wave and tude of a challenge. The real car owners broke into laughter as they waved back.

Being a person who has attended numerous car shows all over the world, I’ve found that the owners are the same everywhere. Proud papas who love showing off their babies and watching people admire them.

If you like classic cars, special cars, or just cars in general, don’t miss the car show November 18 at Brownfield High School. And, don’t miss the opportunity to show off your vehicle. All money brought in goes to help buy bikes for kids. Call 806-637-4523 for more information.
