Kids Wish Network Coming to Town!

“Christmas comes but once a year . . .” That statement will not be so true locally this year! For many Terry County children, Christmas will come again in April. How can this be true coming out of a year like has been had in this area? It is true because of the people of “The Kids Wish Network” out of Holiday, Florida. KWN is a charitable organization whose sole purpose is to bring a little joy to children in deserving communities. Brownfield will be KWN’s only Texas stop for this year. All eligible children in Terry county will receive hundreds of dollars worth of age appropriate toys and gifts.

A local committee has been working with KWN for several months to get the logistics of coming to Brownfield in order. And the logistics are many! At least one fully-loaded semi-truck will come into town full of brand new toys and educational materials, as well as clothing and other necessities. A safe place to store this truck had to be found, and also a location with a good enough flow pattern and size to handle the crowds on distribution day. Volunteers had to be lined up for the event as well as to handle clean up afterwards. All levels of city government had to be on board for this project to take place. And with the logistics in place, the publicity can now begin for this special event.

This week, students in all three Terry County school districts will be bringing home a flyer with information about the event. Parents should read the flyer carefully and follow the instructions for registering their child. All local children between the ages of three and 16 are eligible to receive these toys and gifts, but each child MUST be pre-registered to be allowed in. KWN stresses that there will be no registration on distribution day. Gifts will be distributed to more than 2,000 children on that day and there could be as many as 5,000 when all registrations are received. There is a strong possibility that children from other nearby communities will also be included in the list of eligible children. More information on this possibility will be released later.

So, how do you know if your child is eligible? Very simply, if your child is between three and 16 and live in Terry County, then they are eligible. There are no income or distress requirements. Just simply be pre-registered. The distribution will take place at the Oak Grove Elementary gym in April.

A very good question is how can they do this? KWN has some outstanding corporate sponsors who also want to be a part of making a difference in the life of a child.

Brownfield and Terry County are fortunate to have been chosen for this very special event. Town Talk Radio will keep you informed regularly of everything leading up to distribution day.
